When, for the first time, we face a painting like this (The Guitar Player) we might not notice anything at first. What we see at first side is just an image of a girl who is just playing a guitar. Althought we do not see anyone else in the painting, it seems that she is looking at somebody. Her eyes seem to be focusing on something or somebody. Her fingers´ position suggest that she is procuding sounds. She seems to be playing for somebody who can be hearing and does not appear in the painting. The girl playing the guitar expresses delicacy and softness. Behind her there is anothing painting (which is very common in Vermeer´s paintings). This is a painting of a landscape. Finally, on the right of the girl there is a table with two old books on the top of it and also a kind of rag.

Activities

Since its foundation in 1995, the European Language Resources Association (ELRA) has been a conduit for the distribution of speech, written and terminology Language Resources (LRs) for the Human Language Technology (HLT), a key compound of IST. In order to do so, a number of technical and logistic, commercial (prices, fees, royalties), legal (licensing, Intellectual Property Rights, Management), and information dissemination issues had to be addressed. Since its foundation, ELRA’s mission has enlarged slightly, broadening its objectives and responsibilities towards the HLT community. ELRA is now involved in the production, or commissioning of the production, of language resources through a number of initiatives, also actively committed to the evaluation of language engineering tools as well as to the identification of new resources. Finally, every other year, ELRA organizes a major conference LREC on language resources and evaluation; the latest edition has taken place in May 2006 in Genoa, Italy.

Mission

The mission of the Association is to promote language resources and evaluation for the Human Language Technology sector in all their forms and their uses, in a European context. Consequently, the goals are: to coordinate and carry out identification, production, validation, distribution, standardisation of languages resources, as well as support for evaluation of systems, products, tools, etc.

LANGUAGE RESOURCES (LRs)

DEFINITION

The term language resources refers to a set of speech or language data and descriptions in machine readable form, used e.g. for building, improving or evaluating natural language and speech algorithms or systems, or, as core resources for the software localisation and language services industries, for language studies, electronic publishing, international transactions, subject-area specialists and end users.

Examples of language resources are written and spoken corpora, computational lexicons, terminology databases, speech collection and processing, etc. Basic software tools are also important for the acquisition, preparation, collection, management, customisation and use of these language resources and other resources.

APPLICATIONS

This semester, we did a review of the “del.icio.us” program that we met the last semester in “Digital Resources Management”.

I’m going to do a short introduction of that program, that in my opinion, I think that it is a very important program that we never had heart before.

What is del.icio.us?

“del.icio.us” is a collection of favorites – yours and everyone else’s. You can use del.icio.us to:

Keep links to your favorite articles, blogs, music, reviews, recipes, and more, and access them from any computer on the web.

Share favorites with friends, family, coworkers, and the del.icio.us community.

Discover new things. Everything on del.icio.us is someone’s favorite — they’ve already done the work of finding it. So del.icio.us is full of bookmarks about technology, entertainment, useful information, and more. Explore and enjoy.

“del.icio.us” is a social bookmarking website — the primary use of del.icio.us is to store your bookmarks online, which allows you to access the same bookmarks from any computer and add bookmarks from anywhere, too. On del.icio.us, you can use tags to organize and remember your bookmarks, which is a much more flexible system than folders.

You can also use del.icio.us to see the interesting links that your friends and other people bookmark, and share links with them in return. You can even browse and search del.icio.us to discover the cool and useful bookmarks that everyone else has saved — which is made easy with tags.

What can I use del.icio.us for?

del.icio.us is an open-ended system, so you decide how you want to use it. Here are examples of things you can do with saving bookmarks on del.icio.us:

Research – Writing an article? Researching an industry? Slaving away on your dissertation? Use del.icio.us to keep track of all the source materials and commentary that you find online.

Wishlist – Go to any commerce site, find what you like, save it to del.icio.us and tag it as wishlist. Then you can tell people to check out your wishlist bookmarks by giving them a link to http://del.icio.us/username/wishlist .

Podcast – Want to hear some great podcasts? Visit the mp3+podcast tag combination and start listening. Are you a podcaster? Start posting your mp3 files to del.icio.us and we will create an RSS feed for you.

Vacation – Planning a trip? Save links to hotels, activities, and transportation and use tags like “travel”, “vacation”, and “to-visit”. Collaborate with friends and family by using the “for:username” tag.

Linklog – Save bookmarks to interesting websites and add a bit of commentary to create a lightweight linklog. Then, use linkrolls or the daily blog posting feature to include your del.icio.us bookmarks on your blog or website.

x+ (unha ou máis aparicións do carácter “x”, isto é “x”, “xx”, “xxx”….)

x? (ningunha ou unha aparición do carácter “x”, isto é “” ou “x”)

x* (ningunha, unha ou máis aparicións do carácter “x”, isto é “”, “x”, “xx”, “xxx”….)

x{n} (o carácter “x” repetido “n” veces seguidas)

x{m, n} (o carácter “x” repetido entre “m” e “n” veces seguidas)

Símbolos de literalidade

\+ (o carácter “+”)

\* (o carácter “*”)

\. (o carácter “.”)
